CONFERENCE STRANDS

Our Annual Unity Conference has always evolved in response to new challenges and opportunities facing California’s educational system.  These leading-edge strands set a new standard for policy, practices, research and solutions that will shape the future of governance and leadership, while helping us create dynamic systems related to improving Advocacy, Governance, Leadership, Civic Engagement, Student Achievement and Success, Innovation, and College and Career Readiness.

Strategic Leadership

The fiscal stability of a district/county, the safety, security and well being of students, employees, and parents as well as the labor rights of all our employees are paramount.  As Trustees, we must provide these as primary foundations in order to accomplish the complexity of educating our 6.2 million K-12 students.

Equity Issues and Best Practices

Many equity issues, challenges, and opportunities face us on a daily basis.  Taking action to right the wrongs through making visible the inequities is necessary in order to create fair and just solutions, pedagogical practices, and policies that honor one's culture, language, gender, class, race, and sexual orientation.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Ethnic Studies

Currently our Immigrant and Refugee families and students need to know their Rights.  As Trustees, we must know the law that protects all children rights to an education. Parent Engagement is primary in the education of every child/student because parents are their first teachers.  We must become authentic partners with them in order to provide the children/students a stellar College and Career Ready K-12 Education.

Leadership, Advocacy, and Policy

Trustees as Leaders provide the vision, the heart, and the courage to advocate and create policies that will benefit not only our children/students educational well being but also our families, community and state's future.
